Alkalize The Body – 9 Avoidable Health Issues Caused By Being Overly Acidic

Alkalize the body? Why should we strive to do such a thing?

Today there is much debate going on about the effects on the body of the types of foods we all consume. Some would suggest a balanced diet is enough to support good health.

There is plenty of information available to support this, and yet, there is even more evidence to suggest the contrary. Sadly, all too many people, short of being healthy, are in fact suffering from severely compromised health because of acidity.

Acidity?

Let’s have a look at this. It is a fact that today, more than ever before, many people in our western culture are declining in health.

Many are grossly overweight.

Lots suffer diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, autoimmune breakdown, and heart conditions. High blood pressure is also rife.

These diseases are all linked to acidity, a condition that serves to weaken all body systems and open the floodgates to disease, as the body strives tirelessly for pH balance.

Health – or lack of it – has become a huge growth industry.

Now, if we look at a well-balanced pH body, one that is free of acidosis, you will observe a distinct contrast.

This is a body that is slim, energetic, is resistant to disease, and has alkaline reserves that can meet any demands placed upon it.

So what exactly is pH?

The term pH stands for potential of Hydrogen, and is a measure, on a scale of 0-14 of a solution’s alkalinity or acidity.

Our bodies strive each and every day to balance the pH of our body fluids and tissues. The organs in our body function in direct proportion to the acidic or alkaline levels within.

Consider your heart, for instance – an organ that is highly-dependent on working in an alkaline environment.

Acidity robs the blood of oxygen and, as such, allows for degeneration of the heart. In an alkaline body, the heart does not have to pump as hard in order to distribute blood through the body, because higher pH blood tends to be thinner than acidic pH blood.

This is a clear reason to be concerned about avoiding being acidic

And then there’s the liver – it serves to rid the blood of acid toxins, and works towards making alkaline enzymes. Too much acidity and the poor liver struggles to perform its function.

In fact, death can result when the liver is on acidic overload.

In your kidneys, a regular supply of blood is passed through them each and every minute of your living.

The job of the kidneys is to keep the blood alkaline. Too much acidity in that department and you suffer kidney stones (a somewhat painful condition best avoided). Kidney stones are made up of acid waste and mineral salts, congealed, so to speak.

You see, the organs in your body work optimally when the body’s pH is in balance.

Following a diet that supports this does not require you to cut out acid-forming foods completely. Rather, it seeks to limit the consumption of acid-forming foods, as consuming them long-term will undoubtedly lead to a compromised bone structure and poorer muscle mass.

In his book, ‘Alkalize or Die’, Dr. Theodore A. Baroody points out that the countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter, is that they all come from the same root cause – too much acid waste in the body

Maintaining the Balance for Optimal Health

When your body is in balance, it is able to utilize minerals and nutrients correctly. But, even on the best of health programs, if your pH is not in balance, you cannot expect to enjoy the benefits of supplementation.

When your system is unbalanced, that is, acidic, there is a dearth of calcium and oxygen necessary for maintenance of alkalinity.

As calcium is often referred to as the glue that binds the body, you can see how vital it is for our
health. Too much acid in our systems, causes calcium deficiencies to set in, opening the doors to osteoporosis and bone loss, including teeth, which are, after all, bone

Here are 9 avoidable health issues caused by being overly acidic:

  1. Cardiovascular problems;
  2. Premature aging and osteoporosis;
  3. Free radical damage;
  4. Obesity;
  5. Diabetes;
  6. Autoimmune disease;
  7. Kidney problems;
  8. Chronic fatigue; and
  9. Arthritis.

There is much evidence pointing to the fact that mid-life fractures are often attributable to high acidity. The link to this is a diet overly dependent on animal fats, processed foods and dairy products, and low in fruits and vegetables.

Alkalize the body Could there be a more convincing reason to change?

Dentist helping military with a smile

1319904946 49 Dentist helping military with a smile wagner radio duo nomination face photo dentist Published 3:43pm Wednesday, October 12, 2011

By NEAL WAGNER / City Editor

Alabaster dentist Dr. Thomas Dudney is looking to put a smile on the face of a local military active member or veteran, and is working with a well-known radio duo to help promote the contest.

Dudney, whose office is on Seventh Avenue Northeast, recently teamed up with the Rick and Bubba radio show to announce the first Military Smile Makeover contest.

Through the contest, the radio show hosts will collect nomination photos and essays between now and Nov. 11 before giving them to Dudney and his staff. All nominations must be written essays of no more than 500 words, and must be accompanied by a close-up photo of the nominee’s smile and a full-face photo of the nominee smiling.

Nominees must be serving in active combat duty, or have past active combat duty service.

Dudney said the Military Smile Makeover contest is a variation of a contest he and the radio show have held for Mother’s Day for the past few years.

“We have done a contest called make Momma happy for the past few years, and we started throwing around the idea of doing something similar for our military personnel,” Dudney said. “This is the least we can do to let the members of our military know that we appreciate their service.”

After Dudney reviews the nominations, he will select the top three stories and photos before giving them back to Rick and Bubba. The radio hosts will then read the top three nomination stories on-air Nov. 12 before allowing listeners to determine who wins the top prize on Nov. 18.

The grand prize will be 10 upper veneers and bleaching trays for the winner’s lower teeth.

“We approached Rick and Bubba and asked them if they would be interested in helping us do this, and they said they would be happy to,” Dudney said Oct. 12. “We actually announced the contest on the show this morning.”

Dudney said the Mother’s Day contests in the past have brought between 100-150 nominations, but he said the number could be higher for the military contest.

“I read every one of the essays. Some of them really tug at your heartstrings,” Dudney said. “It’s hard to pick just one winner.”
