The Secret She Carried – Chapter 4

Chapter 4 – The Fight

“Baby, baby, babes,” I rolled onto my side and moaned in protest, “Bree, we have to go to school.” Wait, is that who I think it is? “Anton, what are you…” He hushed me with a kiss but suddenly he was on top of me. “Ant, what are you…” “Shut the fuck up bitch,” he ordered as he drove recklessly in me. I screamed and yelped in sheer agony, shutting my eyes tightly.

“No, please stop!” I yelled as I jerked upwards. My eyes fluttered open and I had realized that it was morning and I was only dreaming. The door busted open just then and my mum rushed at my side. “Bree, honey are you alright? I heard you yell.” I nodded slightly and her hands immediately went to my forehead. “You’re burning up Sabrina, I should get the doctor.” “No!” I exclaimed, getting off the bed, “I’m going to school mum.” She looked at me for a long time, her expression unreadable, until she finally shrugged and left me to get ready.

When I was neatly dressed in a sleeveless turtleneck of multiple colors and an apple bottom jeans, I slipped on a pair of black uggs and headed downstairs. “You look nice,” David complimented as I rounded the corner to the kitchen. “Thanks bro.” I replied with a grin. My head began to hurt, so I took a seat at the dinning table for a bit. “I’m alright.” I lied when I had noticed that David was staring at me, worry written all over his little baby face. He smiled just then and sauntered out of the room. I had decided to take the limo all the way to school today, besides it’s not like I had a choice anyway. I rose from my chair, collected my bag and books, and stormed out of the house and into the limo. “Good morning my lady,” greeted the driver. “Hallo Phill, take me to East High please.” Without another word, he drove off into the day.

As I entered Geography, Anton beckoned me to come… sit with him. I swiftly did so, taking my place at his side. “Babe, are you alright?” My self-esteem decline. “Do I look that bad.” He chuckled, ruffling his hair, “Baby, you look stunning; it’s just your facial expression tells me that you’re not a hundred percent that’s all.” I shrugged, “Yeah, I’m still sort of…” Oh no, a tremendous feeling of nausea arose in the pit of my stomach. I quickly got to my feet and ran out the class. I dashed down the hallway and into the nearest women’s restroom.

Without hesitation, I kicked open a toilet door and emptied my guts in the toilet bowl. I yelped and moaned as I puked; suddenly feeling someone rubbing my back and massaging my shoulders. “Let it out.” I heard Anton’s voice say, “It’s alright baby, just let it all out.” When I had concluded my ultimate episode of vomiting, I flushed the toilet and Anton helped me to the sink. “You’re not supposed to be in here.” I said feebly as he opened the pipe, “Bree, I don’t care. I just wanna ensure your well-being. It’s part of my job.” Part of his job huh; that’s interesting.

After cleaning up, Anton led me to the sick room where I was greeted by Ms. Cope. “But I insist dear,” she insisted when I refused to lay down. Anton rubbed my shoulders and put me to sit beside the bed. “I love you so much.” I told him truthfully. “I love you more.” Anton had to leave for Chemistry; he wanted to stay with me, but he had an important exam to sit. I got extremely bored, so I decided to take a little stroll. As I passed down the hallway in an attempt to locate my locker, I felt someone push me into a locker. Before I could complain, Kibrette began to punch me in the gut. I tried to fight back, but I was too weak, so she trashed me from locker to locker.

I hit my head really hard on a piece of iron, so I screamed out in agony. Students, along with teachers began coming out of the classrooms. I saw Cassandra run up to Kibrette and fired a kick to her face. Kibrette fell to the floor and Cassandra began pelting punches like there was no tomorrow. Two security guards appeared at the scene and broke up the fight. Anton was suddenly at my side and my head began to spin. “Anton.” I said weakly. He lifted me into his arms, tilting my chin up so that I could look him in the eye. “I… will… kill… her.” He whispered, so low I almost didn’t hear. My eyes began to get cloudy and I surrendered to the darkness, as I drifted to unconsciousness.

When I had awoken, I was laying in the hospital bed, Anton and Cassandra sitting at my side. “Baby!” Anton exclaimed, rising to kiss me. “What’s going on, where’s Kib…” “She will be severely dealt with,” Anton said in a deadly voice. Cassandra got up and moved nearer to me. “Bree, I had almost killed that wretch. I can’t believe she tried to hurt you.” “I’m ok now.” I assured, “Where’s mum and dad?” “They’re speaking with the doctor,” Anton answered, playing with my hair. “You’ll be alright Bree.” Cassandra and Anton said in unison, reading the terrible fear in my eyes.

The door opened and my parents followed by a doctor, walked in. My mum buried me in kisses while my dad just held my hand in silence. I wondered why my dad had barely been conversing with me these days. It was really beginning to bother me and I was getting frustrated. “Honey, is something the matter,” my mother asked, reading my worried expression, “No mum, I’m alright now.” The doctor asked me a bunch of random questions and then I was free to go. I had told my parents that I wanted to return to school with Anton and Cassandra, but they insisted that I should go home with them and rest. I bid my friends goodbye, Anton kissing me so tenderly before they exited the limo. They waved me goodbye as the limo drove off.

That evening, Anton and Cassandra came over and kept my company. I was so grateful for this, for I was on the verge of an emotional breakdown; like seriously, all this sickle-cell drama just wasn’t going to cut it. We played all sorts of board games, card games, even truth or dare. I almost gulped when Anton had dared me to kiss Cassandra on the lips. Obviously, I was not going to attempt such thing, so I just kissed her on the cheek. Night was drawing near and Cassandra had to leave so Anton and I wished her a goodnight and she left. “I want you to stay the night with me.” I told my boyfriend. “Bree, I don’t think…” I crushed my lips with his, wrapping my legs around him.

He willingly took me into his arms, groaning as our lips locked. “Bree, we can’t do this tonight,” he said when our lips parted. “But I want to, I want you.” I protested. “My parents have gone to a party and they won’t be back till dawn and… and David’s probably sleeping at your brother’s.” “Bree, I…” “Make love to me,” I pleaded, more vulnerable than ever. He kissed me just then, taking me back in his arms. We collapsed on the bed and he came on top of me. We kissed as our hands found each other’s attire, unbuttoning and unfastening our clothes. I groaned as Anton gently drove into me; my nails digging into his back. “Ugh, ugh… I love you so much Bree,” Anton said as he drove deeper and deeper into me. We moaned and groaned in utter pleasure as the intense feeling of love gripped our insides. I continuously told Anton of how much I loved him and would never let him go.

Hours and hours passed us by, but we didn’t want to stop. God, I love him so much and I knew he loved me too. I felt a bolt of lightning rush through me and after three spasms, I had an extravagant climax. Anton kept on going and I found myself floating on air for I had never felt more complete, more supreme in all my 17 years. Just at the crack of dawn, Anton let out a loud moan of delight and uttered impulsively. We both then fell back on the pillows, more satisfied than Adam was when he found Eve. “I love you Sabrina, you’ve made me the happiest man alive.” Anton said as he hugged me from behind. “I love you too…” I said, breathless and completely drained. After a short silence, Anton’s peaceful snores filled the air. It didn’t take me long to follow him into the land of nod.

“We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to this campaign — with thousands of people participating in events across the country – validating our conviction that chronic pain, including fibromyalgia, is a public health crisis,” says Jan Favero Chambers, president and founder, NFMCPA. “It’s critical that those living with chronic pain raise their collective voices in order to turn the tide against the often devastating impact of chronic pain on individuals, families, communities and the nation.”

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia (FM), interdisciplinary team approaches that include medications, alternative therapies and lifestyle changes can help manage symptoms. Women are much more likely than men to develop FM, according to the Mayo Clinic. Appropriately, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day takes place over Mother’s Day weekend and includes:

  • Thunderclap, Midnight, May 11, 2013: individuals worldwide will concurrently post the “CARE & Make Fibromyalgia Visible” logo via Facebook and Twitter.
  • The Walk to CURE FM: numerous walks throughout the country.
  • Fibromyalgia Proclamations & Declarations: outreach program encourages officials to declare May 12 Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in their jurisdiction.

To address controversies, prejudices and the life-altering effect of fibromyalgia, NFMCPA offers:

  • FM patient education, including symptom management
  • Coordinated advocacy for research for new treatments
  • National representation in Washington, D.C., working with legislators and reporting on national legislative activity
  • Programs to train networked leaders to organize responsive and proactive grass-roots efforts
  • Assistance by state regarding Medicaid Drug Use Review Boards and Pharmaceutical and Treatment Committees
  • FM diagnostic and treatment medical education for healthcare professionals

Rae Marie Gleason, Medical Education and Research Director, NFMCPA, adds, “Our goal is to educate patients, the medical community, the public, government agencies and scientists about the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment of FM and overlapping conditions to gain optimal outcomes for this patient population.”

The Jo Ind Interview: Lifelong journey through world of inspiration.

The man sitting before me in Rackhams, Birmingham, is not talking to Noun 1. talking to – a lengthy rebuke; “a good lecture was my father’s idea of discipline”; “the teacher gave him a talking to”

rebuke, reprehension, reprimand, reproof, reproval – an act or expression of criticism and censure; “he had to  is Martin Waller, who founded one of the top names in interiors – Andrew Martin – with his then business partner, Andrew Gillespie, in 1978.

Since then, Andrew Gillespie has left and the name Andrew Martin has become so much bigger than Martin Waller’s that even those who should know better find themselves calling him Andrew.

Andrew Martin fabrics and furnishings drip with a sense of opulence and other worlds.

Based in Chelsea, frequented by the likes of the Beckhams and the Blairs, it is renowned for translating colours and textured fabrics from all parts of the globe into stylish, modern creations.

Martin is responsible for predicting what will be hot in the coming year in a publication known as Trends, widely regarded as the interior designer’s Bible.

He also set up the coveted Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award which propelled the likes of Kelly Hoppen to fame.

But the best news of all, and the reason why Martin is sitting here sipping coffee with me, is that he is bringing Andrew Martin to Rackhams in Birmingham.

We shouldn’t be surprised. We ought not to be flattered. We do, of course, think it sound business sense for a successful retailer opening his first concession to choose our city as the place in which to do it.

But we have to ask the question nonetheless – why Birmingham?

Martin, aged 46, is all enthusiasm for Britain’s second city.

‘When I was in a geography lesson in school we did Birmingham and I always thought of it as one of the great cities of Europe,’ he says.

‘I’ve thought of it as a Harvey Nichols Harvey Nichols (“Harvey Nicks”), founded in 1813, is an upmarket department store chain. Its original store is in London, England, but it expanded to Leeds, England, and later to more cities in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. , Debenhams and Selfridges. It enhances the whole of Birmingham as a shopping destination.

‘You might not like this, but there’s a feature in a style magazine that says that Birmingham is the cynic cyn·ic

2. A person whose outlook is scornfully and often habitually negative.

3. .

He’s like a little boy who sees the whole world as his playground. Happily he brings that sense of playfulness to his store.

‘My mission is to make retail more exciting so that the customer is astonished,’ he says.

‘At my London store I’ve got a Buddha head that opens his eyes and chats to you as you’re walking along.

‘I’ve got a giant canoe hanging from the ceiling and I’ve got glass panels in the floor, which show films as you walk across them.

‘In one section we’ve got autographs of practically everybody you’ve ever heard of.

‘That started with me trying to get autographs of people who had changed the 20th century – people like Einstein, Picasso and Neil Armstrong but then I got carried away and now we’ve got autographs of everybody.

‘I’ve got an aeroplane in the store that I bought from the RAF. An aeroplane is pretty big and it’s pretty difficult to move around but we did it. Then I wanted it cut in half, then I wanted it polished and stuck on the wall.

‘It’s all about ambience. The key is to make retail about more than just shopping, so a store becomes a destination in its own right.

‘Obviously we want the customers to spend money. Clearly we’re a business and we’ve got to compete with a huge number of other activities but we’re selling more than a product. We’re being entertaining and glittering and fun.’

Martin is keeping mum about what toys he will be displaying in Birmingham.

He says there will not be water features as there are in his London store but promises there will be a surprise or two. I doubt it is going to be boring.

Despite making his name in interior design, it is really to the world of retail that Martin belongs.

Surprisingly he has no background in art or training as a designer. He just happens to be retail crazy and could probably use his boundless Kensington High Street Kensington High Street is the main shopping street in Kensington, west London.

Kensington High Street is the continuation of Kensington Road and part of the A315. It starts by the entrance to Kensington Palace and runs westward through central Kensington. . I was really excited by that. It made me feel that anything was possible.

‘I love Tesco too. I’m just astonished at how well it does what it does. There’s a mango that only a few days ago was in chintz chintz (chĭnts) [probably Hindustani,=variegated], originally a painted or stained calico from India. The company was called upon to do the designs for the interiors of boats and trains on the sets of the James Bond films Living Daylights and A View to Kill.

‘I used to buy a lot of things from the East,’ said Martin. ‘You remember Thai silk The creator of this article, or someone who has substantially contributed to it, may have a conflict of interest regarding its subject matter.

Andrew Martin also sells all sorts of eccentric antiquities – pots that are 4,000 years old, a 2,000-year-old Chinese horse from the Quin Dynasty.

Martin picks up these goodies from his travels, though he says you don’t go to China for Chinese antiquities nor to Egypt for Egyptian ones.

‘You go to Italy for Egyptian antiquities because the Romans calligraphy calligraphy (kəlĭg`rəfē) [Gr.,=beautiful writing], skilled penmanship practiced as a fine art. See also inscription; paleography. European Calligraphy

His mother sent him the Readers’ Digest Book of Travel to cheer him up.

‘It was a big thing for a child to have a book through the post,’ he said. ‘And I loved this book. It had all these terrific places in it.’

He has loved travelling ever since and tends to go away on a voyage about every ten days, visiting traders and bringing back his wares.

His love of retail is Levant Levant (ləvănt`) [Ital.,=east], collective name for the countries of the eastern shore of the Mediterranean from Egypt to, and including, Turkey. , the gilding of Byzantium and the treasures of the Nile.

‘It was the merchants that drove these cities to greatness and it is as true today as it ever was.

‘Cities that have been broken by tragedy, such as in old Yugoslavia, aspire to return to the leisure, wealth and sensibilities where interior design is high on the priorities.

‘It’s a sign of peace and prosperity and an indication of the golden age in which we live. Enjoy it while we can.’

But is there not another side to this? Haven’t we become a more greedy and materialistic society at other people’s expense?

‘There’s a great feeling that Britain used to enjoy a golden age in which we were less selfish than we are now,’ he says.

‘I don’t see any evidence of that. In fact charity giving is up. I don’t think we’re more selfish than we once were.

‘I think we have more money now. People have more
