Quit smoking advice please! Can't stop crying..?
Hey all. It's day 5 of not smoking today. I've noticed some stages that I've gone through throughout these days, at first all I wanted to do was sleep (although I didn't sleep very well at night the first couple nights) then the last 2 days I was pretty sick and couldn't sleep or eat and didn't feel anything really. I barely remember these last 5 days, it's all a blur. Now I can't stop crying. I'm feeling a little better with the other things, but I've been crying a lot the last 3 days and it seems to be getting worse today. Does anyone know how long this will last? I barely get a craving for a cigarette at all, but it's getting hard to stay strong because of all the side effects. any advice or experiences are really appreciated. Thanks.
I am going through the exact same thing right now! I am only on day three. someone can say simply nothing and I just start crying! I hate it! I have just kept my mind super busy and I seem to be doing alright! I know that cigs are like an opiate addiction. It is mind over matter at this point. Stay strong! you can do this!!!
Start smoking again and become relaxed. When you get to be really relaxed, create a time machine. Use the time machine to take yourself back to when you first started smoking. Tell yourself not to smoke.
Problem Solved
Hey you are bold for standing for 5 days. It's not easy quitting smoking. you can choose an alternative option, like chewing gum. sorry if i wasn't much help =/
i think they'll eventually wear off in a couple more days when your a lot stronger without them. just keep trying hard to stay away.
Invest in a package of nicotine patches. Be patient. another week ought to do it. Hang in there.
Get the gum. DH and I quit cold turkey, no gum or meds, but my mom had a much rougher time than us. Pick up the 2mg Nicoderm gum, but ONLY use it when you really, really need it. my mom goes through about 3 pieces a week – she only chews it when she really, really needs it and gets either really angry and fidgety or really weepy. if you have health insurance, call your doctor – there is a med called Chantix that is supposed to be *amazing*, I've spoken to many people who had great success with it while quitting smoking.
Other than that, replace the hand to mouth motion – snack on carrot sticks, start knitting or doing needlepoint, or play video games. good luck!
You need to decide if you really want/need to quit. if you really do want to quit remember if you start again then you'll have to go through these five days again next time you try to quit. It will become easier, maybe see a doctor about the side effects, they'd be keen to help you quit and may be able to help with something else.
If i was you I wouldn't go for the gum etc. as it's a much longer process, going cold turkey is a lot quicker and cheaper. You've already done the five days, keep it going.
Good luck
