Visitors to the booth who place a bid during the PMA fresh Summit will receive a $100 “Bid Buck”, as a credit towards the winning bid.
Doug Ranno, COO of Colorful Harvest said, “our goal is to help the 12 million Americans who suffer from food allergies by supporting FAAN, and by encouraging the food and restaurant industry to develop allergy friendly menu options and allergy safe food handling practices.”
“When I started Colorful Harvest the goal was to grow amazing products for taste, color and nutrition.” says Ranno. “along the way, my daughter was born with a triad of serious ailments (eczema, asthma and food allergies). It was her severe food allergies that triggered her other problems and restricted her nutritional choices. that was my motivation to develop a family of unusually colorful, natural heirloom style vegetables and fruits to offer her greater nutritional diversity and strengthen her immune system. she is my inspiration to help other childhood food allergy sufferers.”
Doug Ranno is also a novice country music song writer and custom guitar designer. His Musical Harvest creations include a red corn guitar, a blackberry guitar, and a tri-colored cauliflower guitar to name a few. but his most well known creation is the strawberry guitar. several of his strawberry guitars have been auctioned to support everything from scholarship funds, to programs to aid the rural poor. the strawberry guitar’s country music roots were well established when the popular trio “Lady Antebellum” played one on stage in 2010 (available for viewing at MusicalHarvest.com ).
a strawberry guitar was also presented to Trace Adkins at the 2010 Florida Strawberry Festival, as a gift for his work in building awareness of food allergies through FAAN. And he signed several Musical Harvest guitars at a recent event in California. “Trace Adkins is not only a great country music entertainer, he is a true superstar when it comes to lending his name to make things better for others. the autographed strawberry guitar signed by Trace Adkins will create lots online bidding activity and should be a very good means of raising funds for this worthy cause,” Ranno said.
Colorful Harvest grows unusually colorful vegetables from natural heirloom style seeds. Each of the colors represents a unique variety of healthful antioxidants and other nutrients. their family of products includes sweet red corn, tri-colored cauliflower (purple, orange and green), Rainbow Crunch® Carrots, and STRAWBERRIES, one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet.

Metal-on-Metal Hip Implants Failure Rates Rise
The National Joint Registry for England and Wales reported that metal-on-metal hip implants contain an ever-increasing failure rate. interestingly, the Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) manufactured by DePuy Orthopaedics, inc., a Johnson & Johnson Company, was recalled last year and had the highest failure rate of approximately 33 percent within the first six years.
While a British registry issued this report, Americans should be wary because the United States does not have such a registry, yet has the highest rate for artificial hips and knee implants. in fact, of the 90,000 ASR units sold worldwide, 40,000 of them were used in the U.S. Additionally, the ASR was used in England and Wales before it was used in the U.S., so complaints in our country will continue to increase in time.
The British data further revealed that is was not just the ASR that failed; all metal-on-metal devices had a rapidly increasing failure rate overall vs. traditional hip replacement. this data is consistent with the limited U.S. data wherein the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received more than 5,000 adverse event reports in the first six months of 2011 regarding metal-on-metal hips, according to the New York Times.
In February 2011, the FDA issued a public health communication about metal-on-metal hip implants and noted that it was “actively working in several areas to assess the safety and effectiveness” of such implants, including a comprehensive review of risk-benefit profiles, utilization trends, patient selection criteria, pre-operative patient counseling, surgical technique, follow-up, and revision rates associated with metal-on-metal hip systems in the United States, as well as adverse events that may be associated with increased levels of cobalt and chromium in the bloodstream (fda.gov/MedicalDevices/ProductsandMedicalProcedures/ImplantsandProsthetics/MetalonMetalHipImplants/ucm241769.htm).
Then on may 6, 2011, the FDA issued orders to 21 manufacturers of metal-on-metal hip systems, including DePuy Orthopaedics, Stryker, Zimmer, Biomet and Wright Medical Technology, for postmarket surveillance studies, which required the companies to provide additional studies regarding the possible adverse health consequences of the implants.
Ennis & Ennis, P.A. recommends that anyone with a metal on metal hip implant system, who is experiencing pain in the groin, hip or leg, swelling at or near the hip joint, or a limp/change in walking ability, first seek medical attention. Then file an adverse event report with the FDA at https://accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm. Lastly, consult with an experienced attorney.

How to find ear acupuncture points
Here is the procedure to use so that you can find the location of an ear acupuncture point. go to yinyanghouse.com. place your pointer on theory on the green bar at the top of the page. Click on auricular acupuncture and scroll down the page until you find two menus entitled Auricular Acupuncture Theory and Auricular Acupuncture Points & Graphics. The Auricular Acupuncture chart gives a diagram of the Chinese ear acupuncture points. You can print this out for future reference. After Dr Nogier presented his research findings the Chinese took up ear acupuncture in the late nineteen fifities. however, they developed it from their own perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Now, as explained in an earlier post, some of the Chinese organs differ from the Western points, so the result was that two ear diagrams were produced, namely a French one and a Chinese one. Some of the points are in the same location whereas others are in different locations. so, in some of the ear acupuncture point combinations to be presented later reference will be made to the Chinese diagram and reference will also be made to the other yinyanghouse diagrams which show the French points.
Have a look at the chart Auricular Acupuncture- Vertebral Spine and Anterior Body parts. This gives you the points on the body related to the joints, limbs and spine. You can use these, for example, in the treatment of osteoarthritis and muscular pain. This is the Chinese diagram. find the location of the ankle, toes, knee and hip and finally the pelvic girdle point, which is located in the part of the ear called the triangular fossa. Now in the French chart the hip joints are found around the pelvic girdle point in the trangular fossa. and the joints of the knees, ankles, and toes, and the muscles of the thigh, calf and toes are found in a diagonal line approximately through the middle of the triangular fossa . This example illustrates the difference between the two sets of Chinese and French points. sometimes you get better results using the French points, whilst with other patients it is best to use the Chinese points. The points that the author of these pages is using are ones that are readily available in the public domain and are not hidden in ear acupuncture books meant for professional practitioners. so, if the results are not as good as you expected them to be do not blame the auricular Stipers that will be introduced later. it may be that the French points should have been used or that you have not located the points properly after you consulted the ear chart. Also, if you have a focus on a part of your body that needs treatment then this may explain the reason that the ear acupuncture treatment has not worked according to your expectations.
Vivekan’s Weekly Bit: The Power of Visualization
Recently, a dear practitioner asked why is it worthwhile to visualize doing something – like a yoga pose – even if one cannot yet fully accomplish the pose, or activity in question. Contextually, the query arises from my suggesting, in my yoga classes, to visualize doing a pose (or transitional movement) even if one does not yet feel able to. there are benefits in mentally doing so.
Studies have demonstrated that when an individual visualizes doing an activity, the regions of the brain involved with the action become stimulated. This activity of the brain is largely the same as if one undertook the action itself, physically. Many athletes have stated that their success lies, in part, in visualizing themselves undergoing what they train for – that doing so makes them better prepared for competitions.
These accounts probably have a lot to do with their visualizations stimulating the very regions of the brain involved with the actual activity. I myself can attest to the benefits visualizations can provide, especially when preparing myself for what I may not yet be able to accomplish – let alone in my asana practice.
That’s why here at Bodhisattva Yoga, Jess & I often encourage our practitioners to take breaks when needed. This is not only to avoid strain, and/or avoid practice intimidation, but to offer the opportunity to utilize the power of visualization for its ability to further prepare us for what will one day become easier, like a pose. The caveat is that you cannot give up on yourself, or your practice, because then we are unable to manifest what we are capable of.
So, enroll now into any of our classes, this will help you stimulate your brain and body, and, if appropriate, visualize yourself accomplishing greatness.
