Does Red Light Therapy Rejuvenate Your Skin?

Does Red Light Therapy Rejuvenate Your Skin? wrinkles nbsp exciting technology discovery building blocks

Red light therapy has become incredibly popular due to its effectiveness at rejuvenating the skin.  Home systems, such as the DPL Light, make it convenient and simple to use this exciting technology.

Red light therapy has been proven to penetrate deep within the layers of the skin to rejuvenate, renew, repair, and heal past damage. The layers of the skin have a high content of blood and water which enables them to easily absorb and respond to LED wavelengths. Tests have shown that LED light wavelengths offer at least 24 different positive changes at the cellular level which results in healthier and younger looking skin.

Red wavelengths from 630-660 nanometers have the ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of your skin.  they have also been shown to increase the energy inside the cells to speed up the healing and repairing processes.  Red light therapy has an incredible number of benefits from reducing wrinkles, shrinking pores, and diminishing scars to relieving pain, accelerating healing, and aiding with injuries.

This technology was originally developed for NASA space shuttle plant growth experiments and was found to help in speeding up healing in outer space.  Because of this discovery LED light technology has helped countless people to heal, repair, and renew cells.  It’s a non-invasive, non-ablative, and painless alternative for rejuvenating the skin and healing the body.

Because of its effectiveness it can be found in the hands of dermatologists, estheticians, physicians, and skin care clinics.  as its popularity grows, more and more home devices are popping up making it simple for the average Jane to use this technology at home.  it has the science backing it and the results are undeniable.  yes, red light therapy does indeed rejuvenate your skin, but the real beauty is that it does so much more.

The discovery of a gene responsible for causing chronic pain has back pain sufferers hopeful that relief will soon be on the way.

Writing in the journal Science, researchers at the University of Cambridge in England say they removed the HCN2 gene from pain-sensitive nerves in mice. Deleting the gene stopped any chronic pain but did not affect acute pain.

They say their findings open up the possibility that new drugs could be developed to block the protein produced by the HCN2 gene, which regulates chronic pain.

The HCN2 gene has been known for several years, but its role in regulating pain was not understood, they claim.

After removing the gene from mice, the researchers carried out studies using electrical stimuli on these nerves in cell cultures to determine how they were altered by the removal of HCN2. They then studied genetically modified mice in which the HCN2 gene had been deleted.

Neuropathic pain occurs when nerves are damaged, causing ongoing pain. this type of chronic pain, which is often lifelong, is surprisingly common and is poorly treated by current drugs, the study says.

Professor Peter McNaughton, lead author of the study and head of the department of pharmacology at the University of Cambridge, said there was now hope for those dealing with chronic pain.

"Individuals suffering from neuropathic pain often have little or no respite because of the lack of effective medications. Our research lays the groundwork for the development of new drugs to treat chronic pain by blocking HCN2."

Results from a magnetic survey at Haranga Resources’ (ASX: HAR) Sumber iron ore project have unveiled the discovery of a large, intense magnetic anomaly. the survey reveals that the anomaly has a strike length of approximately 4 kilometres and is coincidental with the three distinct iron outcrop zones previously located. the company intends to drill this new target in early 2011. An additional magnetic anomalism has been found further to the west, providing a secondary target area. … Read the full story at Business Mongolia

Psychoneuroimmunology: what a Mouthful!

By Vera Viner

There are many risk factors to consider when attempting to live a healthy, cancer-free lifestyle.  People may think that the most difficult things to change are one’s diet and exercise routine.  other people may find it hard to limit alcohol intake or to stop smoking.  however, I believe that the hardest thing of all is to change one’s attitude and reactions to stressful events.  This risk factor is so vital that an entire school of thought is built around it.  Psychoneuroimmunology is the study of how psychological processes, the nervous system, and the immune system work together.

This form of study incorporates many, many parts of both the medical and psychological communities.  It incorporates even pharmacology, physiology, and endocrinology.  Psychoneuroimmunology studies how psychological processes affect the nervous system and immune system, especially in negative ways.  a poor nervous system and ineffective stress reactions will leave a person prone to infections, viruses, bacteria, and even cancer development.

The earliest indications of this form of study came from the discovery of the autonomic nervous system, specifically the sympathetic and parasympathetic responses.  This is also known as the “Fight or Flight” response.  when reacting to a stressful event, a person’s heart rate is increased, the gastrointestinal tract is inhibited, pupils are dilated, and the kidneys and gallbladder are inhibited.  This is known as the sympathetic response.  the parasympathetic response is when the opposite takes place: the heart rate is decreased and all functions are returned to normal.  the “Fight or Flight” response can be very protective to human beings as it allows us to react to dangerous situations.  however, when this response lasts too long or is too severe, this can affect the immune system in a negative way.

The immune system is responsible for finding and destroying antigens and cancerous cells.  Leukocytes or white blood cells are the cells of the immune system.  these cells include B cells, natural killer cells, killer T cells, helper T cells, and macrophages.  all of these cells circulate through the blood and invade antigens.  Severe stress can slow down and impair these leukocytes, increasing a person’s susceptibility to infection.  Biochemical activity is part of the way stress can weaken the immune system.  however, a person’s personality, behavior, and amount of social support also make a strong impact on immunity.

The ways stress disorders are treated today include relaxation training, biofeedback training, meditation, hypnosis, therapy treatment, and support groups.  Relaxation training is comprised of teaching people to relax their muscles.  In biofeedback training, patients are connected to machines that tell them their bodily responses such as heart rate.  This gives patients more awareness on how their body is reacting and how to control these reactions.  Meditation is a matter of turning ones consciousness inwards and focusing on one’s breath.  Hypnosis allows a patient to forget certain events.  Therapy in general can help a person have a more positive outlook on life and learn new attitudes.  Support groups give much greater social support to people who have felt lonely in the past.  If stress plays a large part in your life and you do not know how to manage it, talk to your doctor about using one of the treatments above.  It may help you avoid cancer or infection.
