Getting certified FAA 1st class pilot medical health certificate with migraines?
I was diagnosed with classic migraines a few years ago and am aspiring to become a pilot with my 1st class medical certificate someday hopefully. The migraines are not very frequent, or severe when I have them, but would this condition disqualify me from getting my 1st class certificate?
You're medically toast. Only after many years of verifiable migraine-free existence should you even consider flying.
It's not the medical exam that's your problem — it's the medical condition! Be responsible.
If you feel you MUST fly, take flying lessons, or fly right-seat for your buddies at the airport. just don't think you could, or should, be PIC.
Migraines are a super distraction. My wife gets them and she becomes quite sensitive to light…even experiences changes in her vision.
Be honest with yourself.

What are natural remedies for acid reflux and heartburn?
I've been told to take ranitidine by my doctor, but I would prefer not to have to take another drug for the rest of my life. What are some effective natural remedies I could try?
I can honestly tell you that two relatives of mine, both who were diagnosed with GERD, cured their symptoms by simply taking a multi enzymes supplement.
My husband was diagnosed with GERD last Summer-which was so severe, he'd literalyy wake up about every other morning, chokinng and gasping for breath! very scary!
After taking OTC products suggested by the physician(including Prilosec and Zantac) as well as prescription drugs(such as Nexium) without any relief, I did some research and found that Enzymes are great for ANY digestive problem, so I ordered some. a long story short, he hasn't experienced those attacks ever again since taking enzymes!
My mom-in-law also was diagnosed with it so I suggested she try the enzymes, and she no longer experiences acid reflux either!
And enzymes are naturally produced by our bodies anyways, but when we become deficient, problems like acid reflux arise.
That's when a multi enzyme supplement is neccessary.

If we offered you a miracle remedy that cures and prevents "Gastritis" would you buy it? certainly you would. you won’t find it in a Pharmacy but at the Grocery Store.
Try the Natural Cures for Gastritis.
Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It is a troublesome condition which may lead to many complications including ulcers if not treated in time. Constipation aggravates the condition more than any other disorder.
The inflammatory lesions may be either acute erosive gastritis or chronic atrophic gastritis. The latter type has been found to be present in half the patients suffering from severe iron deficiency anaemia.
Symptoms: The main symptoms of gastritis are loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness. There is also pain and a feeling of discomfort in the region of the stomach. in more chronic cases, there is a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, especially after meals. The patient complains of heartburn. Prolonged illness often results in the loss of weight, anaemia and occassional haemorrhage from the stomach. There may be an outpouring of mucus and a reduction in the secretion of hydrochloric acid during acute attacks and also in most cases of chronic gastritis.
Causes: The most frequent cause of gastritis is a dietetic indiscretion such as habitual overeating, eating of badly combined or improperly cooked foods, excessive intake of strong tea, coffee or alcoholic drinks, habitual use of large quantities of condiments, sauces, etc. It may sometimes follow certain diseases such as measles, diptheria, influenza, virus pneumonia, etc. Most often it also results from worry, anxiety, grief and prolonged tension. use of certain drugs, strong acids, and caustic substances may also give rise to gastritis.
Treatment: The patient should undertake a fast in both acute and chronic cases of gastritis. in acute cases, the patient will usually recover after a short fast of two or three days. in chronic condition, the fast may have to be continued for a longer period of seven days or so. in the alternative, short fasts may be repeated at an interval of one or two months, depending on the progress being made.
The fast may be conducted on fruit juices. by fasting, the intake of irritants is at once effectively stopped, the stomach is rested and the toxic condition, causing the inflammation, is allowed to subside. Elimination is increased by fasting and the excess of toxic matter accumulated in the system is thrown out.
After the acute symptoms subside, the patient should adopt an all-fruit diet for further three days. Juicy fruits such as apple, pear, grapes, grapefruit, orange, pineapple, peach and melon may be taken during this period at five-hourly intervals. The patient can thereafter gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet of three basic food groups, namely: (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables, and (iii) fruits on the following lines :
Upon arising: a glass of lukewarm water with freshly squeezed lemon and spoonful of honey.
Breakfast: Fresh fruits, such as apples, orange, banana, grapes, grapefruit or any available berries, a handful of raw nuts and a glass of milk.
Mid-morning snack: one apple, banana, or any other fruit.
Lunch : Steamed vegetables, two or three slices of whole meal bread or whole wheat chappatis, according to the appetite and a glass of butter milk.
Mid-afternoon: a glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice or sugarcane juice.
Dinner: a large bowl of fresh salad of green vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, red beets, cabbage, cucumber with dressing of lemon juice and cold-pressed vegetable oil, all available sprouts such as alfalfa seeds mung beans, fresh butter and fresh home-made cottage cheese.
Bedtime snacks: a glass of fresh milk or one apple.
The patient should avoid the use of alcohol, nicotine, spices, and condiments, flesh foods, chillies, sour things, pickles, strong tea and coffee. he should also avoid sweets, pastries, rich cakes and aerated waters. Curds and cottage cheese should be used freely. Carrot juice in combination with the juice of spinach is considered highly beneficial in the treatment of gastritis. 200 mL of spinach juice should be mixed with 300 ml. of carrot juice in this combination. too many different foods should not be mixed at the same meal. Meals should be taken at least two hours before going to bed at night. 8 to 10 glasses of water should be taken daily, but water should not be taken with meals as it dilutes the digestive juices and delays digestion. And above all, haste should be avoided while eating and meals should be served in a pleasing and relaxed atmosphere.
Coconut water is an excellent food remedy for gastritis. It gives the stomach necessary rest and provides vitamins and minerals. The stomach will be greatly helped in returning to its normal condition if nothing except coconut water is given during the first 24 hours. Rice gruel is another effective remedy in acute cases of gastritis. in chronic cases where the flow of gastric juice is meager, such foods as require prolonged vigorous mastication will be beneficial as this induces a greater flow of gastric juices.
From the commencement of the treatment, a warm water enema should be used daily, for about a week, to cleanse the bowels. If constipation is habitual, all steps should be taken for its eradication. The patient should be given daily a dry friction and sponge bath. Application of heat, through hot compressor or hot water bottle twice in the day either on an empty stomach or two hours after meals should also prove beneficial.
The patient should not undertake any hard physical and mental work. he should, however, undertake breathing and other light exercises like walking, swimming, and golf. he should avoid worries and mental tension.
Hope this helps, good Luck.
heartburm is caused by an overproduction of stomach acid, oddly enough, raw, unpastuerized apple cider vinegar, about 1 teaspoon in a glass of water or apple juice will neutralize that..sounds weird, but have tried it, it works..good luck..
you can add a bit of honey too…
Take a look at this website:
improvedhealthandfitness.com/…
Hope this helps…
Baking soda is a neutralizer. How about a small amount in a glass of water.
for heartburn take a teaspoon of vinegar
try this
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar , 1teaspoon honey mix with 8 oz water. drink that for 1 weak. and started to take digestive enzymes.

I was told I had this problem to. I stopped caffiene, no mints/peppermints, elevated bed, and no chocolates. The problem went away.
Buy a plant of alovera and mix it with on the blender with a little of water and take a cup of this mix every morning. It's not tasty but is wonderful for your acid reflux.
I have found that drinking a light carbonated drink helps, as well as taking a hot bath with vapors, or eating dry cereal. Lay off coffee and peanut butter for a couple of days and see if that helps.
Check out a product called MISTICA and one called CORE GREENS. They are all natural, easy to take, taste good and actually work. Check out the website, they have lots of information. I had a Gastric Bypass operation in 2003 and since January 2007 I have been taking both. I no longer experience the acid reflux or heartburn and it has helped to soothe my digestion. My husband takes just the MISTICA and he doesn't pop Tums or Rolaids anymore.
I hope this helps you.

Hi Erin, ranitidine for reducing stomach acid production – good drug, but if you want use effective natural remedies so i recommend – Anise, peppermint, and lavender
Here’s a tea that you can make to help you with acid reflux or heartburn. It will help you reduce the amount of acid you have in your stomach. Mix together equal amounts of aniseed, peppermint and lavender. Make an infusion of this tea:
* boiling 2 1/2 cup distilled water
* pour this water over a teaspoon of the herbal mixture
* let this tea sit for 3- 5 minutes
* strain the tea and add a little bit of honey if you like.
* place this tea in a thermos
Drink up to 8 oz in the morning and 8 oz in the evening to get relief of acid reflux.

Vomiting After Having Pau D’arco? A Problem and Sharing Experience
Have you heard of pau d’arco tea? many people have been using it. But, there is a case where one of my friends tried a cup today for the first time and got very sick today (vomiting). So she asked me whether this sort of reaction to pau d’arco or not. She got into a car accident last week and has been out of work with some back/neck injuries so she thinks it could have something to do with that as well.
I will try to answer the problem above with cases and experiences I have from a friend, Linda. She says that from a non-tea drinker, she found Pau d’arco tea to be very nice tasting. Prior to taking the tea she had been doing other things, so that may have had an impact on how she responded to it.
Her naturopath never told her to take it, she did this on her own. Sometimes she would get the feeling that she wanted to gag, but it was a kind of a mild feeling. Then one day out of the clear blue sky she had to use the bathroom real bad. After going she felt much better. this was the only time that this happened while she was on the tea. at her next visit to the doctor she mentioned what had occurred and was told that her system probably was “purging”.
She is sure that she would have experienced vomiting had she not already been on something prior to using this tea. Her whole efforts revolved around keeping the flow coming out of the bottom and not the top. Just the thought of the possibility of what could come out totally horrified her.
Although I don’t have such experience but I can say that it is very rare, not to say none, that I found someone who got vomiting with pau d’arco. Take example my friend. She hasn’t vomited after using pau d’arco, but it does make her nauseated, and makes her stomach/intestines very “growly”.
My other friend says she doesn’t vomit, but it did give her the worst die-off symptoms of any of her antifungals (caprylic acid, oregano oil, garlic and something mysterious from her homeopath), and it tends to give her a mild but persistent migraine (without the nausea, bizarrely) on the days she takes it. It makes her stomach talk as well! But she must confesses that she likes the taste.
Should My Kid Go to a Magnet School?
My son just finished his 2nd year at Kealing Middle School, it is a magnet school here in Austin, Texas. The school is great and my son loves it. He’s had some great experiences at the school and the teachers are some of the best I’ve seen, also, they really seem to be into their jobs.
Think about it, if you are a magnet teacher, you know that the majority of your students are motivated and interested in what you are teaching. also, most of the screw-offs and kids who don’t care don’t go to magnet schools. The teachers and the curriculum is what I think sets magnet programs apart. Having teachers who are into what they teach is a beautiful thing.
We’ve had to make a few minor sacrifices for my son to go to Kealing. School starts earlier than regular middle schools; the bus comes way early so I drive him to school everyday; and he gets lots of homework. The amount of homework isn’t really bad, but it does cut into after school activities. he had been playing baseball and quit at the start of 7th grade because he knew he was going to get hammered with homework–he was right.
The classes available to kids in the magnet program is great. Most of his classes are pre-AP level and beyond. his algebra and Japanese are high school level and he gets high school credits for those classes. He’s had astronomy, robotics, mathcounts, Texas history (I love this), intro to flight, and black and white photography, among many other great classes.
So no matter how much of a challenge it might be for you or your child I think it’s a smart move to try to get your kid in a magnet program.

Quit smoking advice please! Can't stop crying..?
Hey all. It's day 5 of not smoking today. I've noticed some stages that I've gone through throughout these days, at first all I wanted to do was sleep (although I didn't sleep very well at night the first couple nights) then the last 2 days I was pretty sick and couldn't sleep or eat and didn't feel anything really. I barely remember these last 5 days, it's all a blur. Now I can't stop crying. I'm feeling a little better with the other things, but I've been crying a lot the last 3 days and it seems to be getting worse today. Does anyone know how long this will last? I barely get a craving for a cigarette at all, but it's getting hard to stay strong because of all the side effects. any advice or experiences are really appreciated. Thanks.
I am going through the exact same thing right now! I am only on day three. someone can say simply nothing and I just start crying! I hate it! I have just kept my mind super busy and I seem to be doing alright! I know that cigs are like an opiate addiction. It is mind over matter at this point. Stay strong! you can do this!!!
Start smoking again and become relaxed. When you get to be really relaxed, create a time machine. Use the time machine to take yourself back to when you first started smoking. Tell yourself not to smoke.
Problem Solved
Hey you are bold for standing for 5 days. It's not easy quitting smoking. you can choose an alternative option, like chewing gum. sorry if i wasn't much help =/
i think they'll eventually wear off in a couple more days when your a lot stronger without them. just keep trying hard to stay away.
Invest in a package of nicotine patches. Be patient. another week ought to do it. Hang in there.
Get the gum. DH and I quit cold turkey, no gum or meds, but my mom had a much rougher time than us. Pick up the 2mg Nicoderm gum, but ONLY use it when you really, really need it. my mom goes through about 3 pieces a week – she only chews it when she really, really needs it and gets either really angry and fidgety or really weepy. if you have health insurance, call your doctor – there is a med called Chantix that is supposed to be *amazing*, I've spoken to many people who had great success with it while quitting smoking.
Other than that, replace the hand to mouth motion – snack on carrot sticks, start knitting or doing needlepoint, or play video games. good luck!
You need to decide if you really want/need to quit. if you really do want to quit remember if you start again then you'll have to go through these five days again next time you try to quit. It will become easier, maybe see a doctor about the side effects, they'd be keen to help you quit and may be able to help with something else.
If i was you I wouldn't go for the gum etc. as it's a much longer process, going cold turkey is a lot quicker and cheaper. You've already done the five days, keep it going.
Good luck
