Compare Razor vs. Electric Shaver, How to Get a Close Shave?
Ever since the day the first electric razor was invented in 1928 by Col. Jacob Schick, the debate has raged on about whether a razor or electric shaver is the best shaver to get a closer shave, especially for men with sensitive skin. As manufacturers like Braun, Norelco and Remington have improved the quality of their electric shavers, the battle over which is the best shaver to get a smooth shave has intensified. Just watch any electric shaver commercial and the debate over razor vs. electric shaver is discussed. each electric shaver manufacturer will inevitably tell tell you that they have the best electric shaver to give you a shave as close as a razor blade.
In my 20 or so years of shaving my face on a daily basis, I have used several electric shavers from Braun and Norelco, as well as, manual razors from Gillette, Bic and Schick. since I have sensitive skin, I regularly faced the dilemma of razor burn from electric shavers and several nicks on my face from cheap manual razors with dull or poor quality blades.
Are Razor Blades Superior to Electric Shavers?
Since razor blades actually come in contact with your face while shaving, you may think using a razor blade with shaving cream will give a smoother shave than an electric razor. My own experience says this is not always the case. Cheap razors from the likes of Schick and Bic, where you can buy 1 to six single or double blade razor blades made in countries like Turkey, Mexico or China for under $10 are poor quality razor blades that have consistently left the sensitive skin on my face feeling raw or with several painful nicks.
To get a superior shave using a manual razor, you need to use shaving products for men with essential oils and a quality five blade razor blade and . These new razors are made with quality materials that help the razor blade glide across your face smoothly. with the new five blade razors, these male grooming devices are designed to lift the whisker up and hold it while the other blades remove the hair.
The Key is To Use the Best Men’s Shaving Products
For men with sensitive skin or ingrown hairs on your face or neck, it is important to use shaving cream and pre-shave oil with essential oils, like Art of Shaving. These shaving products use natural spa-like ingredients, rather than store-bought shave creams that contain alcohol, chemicals and animal based products, that soften the face and beard and allow for a smooth shave free of razor burn and nicks. The first time I tried Art of Shaving products for men, I knew the consistent quality shave I received was well worth the price.
What is the Best Electric Shaver
I have used electric shavers from Braun, Norelco and Remington, and have found that Braun electric shavers give me the best shave that is closest to using a razor blade. The new Braun 7 Series is winning serious praise from men, due to being designed with features for men with sensitive skin and ingrown hairs, to give them the smoothest shave of any electric razor without razor burn. Some men are partial to Remington or Norelco, and will never use a Braun electric shaver. If you are replacing an electric shaver, or thinking of using an electric shaver, due to the convenience over a manual razor, I recommend the Braun Series 7 shaver.
Conclusion
If you use a top quality five blade razor blade and the best shaving products with essential oils, then I think a razor blade will indeed give you the closest and smoothest shave of any type of razor vs. electric shaver, but if you prefer an electric shaver, then I recommend the Braun Series 7 shaver, which is the best shave for men with sensitive skin.

How Many Razor Blades Are Really Necessary?
For the past few years, razor blade companies have been releasing more and more complicated razors with more and more blades. I suppose with inflation influencing everything else, perhaps it should be no surprise, but are five blades on a vibrating handle really necessary?
I think we can answer that question fairly quickly – no. People got along with 2 blades for years and had no problem at all. (People shaved with straight razors and most still did okay, unless they had Sweeney Todd for their barber.) but enough people have embraced the three-bladed razor to make us wonder whether it really is an improvement over its ancestors, and whether that means more will always be better.
A couple of years ago when Gillette released its first five-blade razor, it seemed incredibly absurd. The idea is that the five blade system pulls hair out and away from the skin while it cuts it, which apparently gives a closer, more comfortable shave. The current model includes another blade for trimming, so although you aren’t shaving with all six at once, it still has six blades.
Dermatologists say that any more than two blades will actually cause more razor burn and more pain. More blades means more friction – more ways to irritate the skin and more blades to nick it. however, are saying that they’ve solved those problems by putting the blades closer together, making them our of friction-reducing materials, and adding large guards to protect the skin.
The paradox is that most of the people with the most sensitive skin will actually have better luck with two or three blades. People with thicker hair usually do find that the increased number of blades can help their shave to last longer – a definite plus. however, those who have easily irritated skin will probably want to be careful before rushing out to by the latest in razor inflation – for the most sensitive, less is probably more.
How do you get a really close shave?
Ok well every time i shave you can tell i shaved and i don't like that that much but that's not the problem well every time i shave it's still prickle what shaving supply's or what would i have to do to solve this problem i would like something that makes it smooth for at least a couple days if possible also like i never had anyone to teach me so like how many times a week and stuff idk if that's a stupid question But yea Please and thank you
Only way to get a closer shave is to follow my advice closely!
You will need:
> a good razor, Gillette Power Fusion is the best
> a good shaving gel [gillette is good but I particularly like Trevor Sorbie]
Well, always shave after you shower as the shower would soften the beard. once you get out of the shower, don't dry your face. Apply the shaving gel thoroughly to your face. Let the gel work on the beard for at least one minute. [In the mean time you can dry your body!]
Then start shaving, in the direction of the hair growth, making sure to rinse the razor often. once you're done, apply another thing layer of gel and this time shave against the grain [opposite the hair growth]. This technique should give you a very close shave.
Rinse, pat dry and make sure to apply a good shaving balm. Don't use aftershave lotion, especially when you shave against the grain.
[tips: exfoliate your face occasionally with some scrub to prevent ingrown hair]
Hi hepha..
Its nice that you are so frank to ask these question.many of us might have felt shy of asking it.But you got the guts.Ha Ha..
OK let me tell you the method that I follow to have a close shave.First of all you need to get good accessories of good quality. It will be great if you don't overuse the razor just use for only limited shaves which it can bear.secondly, get more foam of the cream so that the hairs get off easily. You must shave twice with the foam.after you finish it for second time, you just apply water on your shaved part don't wipe it or rinse it but again re-shave it using only razor(washed one) i.e don't apply the cream you can call it as water shave. It will help to get the small hairs in the trap of your razor and you will notice them.If you still feel the hairs then have a water shave on that area. But remember,it must be done after your cream shave. You will really have good results.
Thanks and enjoy.Waiting for your response.
It's not going to stay smooth for long because it's always growing.. If you want it to be smoother the only thing you can do is shave all the time, but that can get annoying. That's the way facial hair works, it grows and you shave it. It sucks, but hey that's what guys have to deal with. Be thankful you don't have a period? Sorry girls
bad joke.
If you want a really close shave, see a barber OR use a manual 5 blade razor.
Unfortunately, If you have fast hair growth, you wont get a smooth shave for more than a day, And if you shave int he evening, you'll find that you'll have stubble again by the morning.
Shave first thing every morning/every other morning or let it grow.
best of luck!
If you want to really a close shave i mean very smooth face skin
then go for waxing
I wax my neck hair my beard is on neck too
so when i wax it..it last for 10 days and after ten days it grow again
they are thin and i am waxing since three months and the hair growth and hair is reducing
I shave with the grain, use the Gillette M3 Power Nitro, and I started using Shave Secret which is just an oil for shaving not a cream. So far so good.
Well, the only way you are going to get a really clean "shave" is by using a depilator, like Magic shaving powder.
Take a hot shower first. Shave with the grain. Now shave against the grain.
If you find the answer to this , there are millions of women out there that would like to know as well.
warm/hot shower or good barber with a straight razor, ask first
go to a barber
just relax…… chill……
use menthol based shaving cream…
Isnt a 5 blade razor a bit ridiculous and it even has a single one on the back?
Lets all just use a single blade razor
NO! they are amazing!
the new Venus Embrace is a 5 blade and it makes SUCH a difference! Such a close shave!!
YES!! five my ar*e!! Although anything less than a "Gillette blue II" and my face gets really messed up!
for a man, yes, because it is easy for u guys to see when ur shaving, but for women, we cant really see the backs of our legs when we shave, so we need a 5 blase razor so we can trust that the razor isnt missing any hairs
Extra blades help up to a point. more important are flexible razor heads, as they help to keep you from shaving the skin off of your face, legs, etc. I think the 4-5 blade business today is fairly gimmicky–that's why I'm sticking with an electric.
I like the 5 blade razor.
i normally use 3…not used a 5 yet…and cant use a 1 blade 1 cause they cut me to pieces, but i wish i could- they are well cheaper lol
What Men's Electric Shavers have charging stands!?
I want to get my husband a new shaver for christmas but he insist that IF I get him one it has to sit on a charger and charge. Does anyone know of any good ones without spending more then a hundred dollars. Thanks
