Stress And High Blood Pressure
Stress can make blood pressure go up for a while, and it has been thought to contribute to high blood pressure. But the long-term effects of stress are as yet unclear. Stress management techniques do not seem to prevent high blood pressure. However, such techniques may have other benefits, such as making you feel better or helping you to control over-eating thus helping in decreasing your blood pressure..
Remember your blood pressure increases remarkably when you are under physical or emotional stress. If you constantly feel stressed out, your body may maintain an abnormally high level of responsiveness, creating an artificially induced state of high blood pressure.
Exercise can also cause stress, but unlike exercise, which provides your body with well-controlled physical stress for a limited amount of time, chronic stress does not benefit your circulatory system. Rather, it increases your risk of illness. However, stress is very much a part of modern life, and it can be hard to control the amount of stress in your life without changing your daily habits significantly.
What are the ways to control your stress? many persons do follow these habits to relieve from stress–eating, drinking alcohol, and smoking–contribute to the development of high blood pressure. you may wish to use exercise to manage your stress. Failing that, you may need to seek counseling to help you change how you think about certain things that cause you to be stressed, or to learn relaxation techniques. Relaxation techniques, including progressive muscle relaxation and transcendental meditation may help reduce mild high blood pressure.
How your heart is affected by stress? Stress has noticeable effects on the cardiovascular system. who hasn’t felt their heart beat faster because of stress or anxiety? Chronic stress can result in high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular system disorders.
Keep in mind that Stress is a leading cause of high blood pressure. even a small stress response causes blood vessels to constrict. Research is unlocking a complex relationship between stress, high blood pressure and the cardiovascular system. some studies has proved this fact that stress is deeply related with high blood pressure.
Recent studies have brought to light how stress and high blood pressure influence the chance of a stroke and transient ischemic attacks. a study in the June 2003 edition of Stroke draws a connection between the severity of stress-induced blood pressure changes and the risk of strokes. Danish study supports this finding: the study discovered that middle-aged men who reported high levels of stress were twice as likely to suffer a fatal stroke compared to men who reported low stress levels. as little as one incident of stress a week doubled the chance of a stroke.
Atherosclerosis occurs when fat, cholesterol, and plaque deposits build up and clog the cardiovascular system’s blood vessels. Arteries become thick with this process. If atherosclerosis affects blood vessels leading to the heart, the disease is referred to as coronary artery disease. High blood pressure , cholesterol, smoking and diabetes are important risk factors for High blood pressure. Stress may also be a contributing factor. An Ohio State University study discovered that stress slows the body’s metabolism of triglycerides, a type of fat linked to cardiovascular system disorders, including heart attacks. by slowing the metabolism of triglycerides, stress allows the fat to remain in the blood longer, a factor that may speed up atherosclerosis development.
Relaxation techniques can help minimize the effect stress has on the cardiovascular system.
Research has noted that breathing exercises and meditation help control high blood pressure, and may even have a preventative effect. Development of atherosclerosis can also be delayed by relaxation techniques. Regular meditation, breathing exercises and other techniques can help to lower the level of oxidative chemicals in the blood, which in turn lowers the risk of atherosclerosis and thus maintaining your blood pressure with in normal limits.

What can I do and what are the risks for an abortion for my chihuahua who was bred by a border collie PUP?
My chihuahua was being watched by my sister and her 4-5mo? old border collie puppy got ahold of her. before anyone could stop him he finished. (But she couldn't tell me if they stuck though?)Now we are worried she is pregnant. I can't get much out of the vet, I need to know what kind of issues I'm looking at. I need to know what the risks are, the stats, everything. I need to know ANY procedure that can be done to determine her pregnancy after 2-2.5 weeks. I don't think that waiting for 30 days would be safe for her. they say its too soon to do the blood test till half way through the pregnancy. What if she isn't and I jump the gun and put her through a major procedure? She almost died when put under for a broken foot? What do I do?!?!?! Pleasehelp?
The risk of having her spayed and the litter aborted are minor compared to the risks of letting her continue with the pregnancy if she's pregnant. Letting her continue could very well kill her!
As long as she isn't still in heat, you can bring her in and have her spayed. the litter will be aborted at the same time, if there is one.
I am not sure that he is sexually mature at such a young age….in fact, I am pretty confident he isn't. I would take her to the vet and have them give her a pregnancy test and go from there. in the meantime, calm down. Knowledge is power, and right now you're in need of it. even if she isn't pregnant, you should be looking into spaying her!
I feel bad for ya. have you called another vet? OR a vet school nearby…often they have tests and specialists AND resources regular vets dont have. look for a vet college or a college where veterinary medicine is a major available.
SHE NEEDS TO HAVE THE ABORTION OR SHE WILL DIE GIVING BIRTH!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO I WOULD FIND a NEW VET IF HE CANT TELL YOU IF SHE IS OR NOT IT IS SIMPLE FOR a VET TO FIND OUT
she has a better chance of surviving an abortion and spay than delivering these pups. she will surely die.
There's a possibility that they actually didn't mate. a 5 months old puppie may not be mature enough to breed. they may have gone through the motion as puppies have a tendency to hump but nothing real actually happen. I would just wait 2 weeks to have the blood test done. I know you're really worried by this right now but there's really nothing you can do as of this moment. just love your chihuahua for now, 2 weeks will go by real fast.
While a 5 month old puppy usually isn't mature enough to produce sperm, you're looking at losing your girl if he's managed to do it.
I agree with the others — spay her ASAP and you won't be gambling with her life.
She would have to be in heat to get pregnant. Not sure at what age male dogs become able to father a litter but if she has gotten pregnant what other option do you have? none. you can get emergency contraception for dogs, you didn't say how long ago this was? If she is pregnant and it's too late for the dog equivalent of the morning after pill then she must have an abortion as she is so small compared to a collie and would die giving birth.
From a site: Male puppies will display mounting behavior at a very young age (3-4 weeks), but are not producing sperm. this puppy mounting behavior will often disappear in a short time and then reappear as the dog approaches puberty. half of male dogs will display mounting behavior by 5½ months of age, and will become able to sire a litter around that age. Note that some male dogs may be able to sire a litter before 5 months of age – 5 months is the average.
Nope, no real test that can determine pregnancy at this point and it is best if you simply have her spayed at this point instead of waiting as waiting will make a more problematic spay but carrying the puppies could kill her DO NOT WAIT any time at all… call the vet and schedule her to be spayed in the morning. If you care about her, this is what you will do without hesitation.
add: she won't have to give birth to die – simply carrying a puppy would kill her — also I have known plenty of litters produced by five month old puppies as well as with no ties so I echo what others have said, don't gamble with her life – she needs to be spayed and likely should have been anyway as it will prevent other unwanted deadly situations from occurring. there is no good reason NOT to spay her and all the reasons in the world to care about her and get her spayed.
Was your chihuahua on heat when this happened? I'd be surprised if the pup has actually mated with her at his age but, it isn't impossible. Usually a pup of this age will go through all the motions but may not have actually penetrated her.
Normally the two dogs should 'tie' for about 20 minutes after ejaculation, although puppies have been concieved with just a 'slip mating'. did your sister witness anything like this?
I would be inclined to wait for three weeks. At this time you will notice her nipples will start to become slightly raised and will turn pink in colour. this is a good sign that she is in whelp and your Vet will be able to palpate her between 3 and 4 weeks to see if she is carrying any puppies. he can then advise you on the best course to take regarding abortion if you do not wish her to have a litter.
it might be a good idea to get both dogs fixed to save having to go through this kind of thing again.
I do feel that you could be risking her life by letting her give birth to Collie pups as they would be far too big for a tiny dog to carry and she could have a lot of trouble trying to whelp.
no even a single cell in the chihuahua's body is at all designed to support a baby of a collie inside the body so it is a definite disaster for it yes if you do wait there is no chance of saving your dog..let me tell you at 1month the situation is that a human being is carrying a 5 month old horse baby inside the womb and poor thing i dont think it will be able to take that so please get it done there might be a prob in doing so but not as severe as that of continuing the pregenancy … all the best tc
at the males age it is a 50/50 chance her got her pregger. however, i would not risk it! the pups will be to big for you dog. the risk of losing her during birth is very great! allot more then having the surgery done. if i where you, I'd go ahead with the surgery.
Ok my vet told us its the moms body that determines the size of the puppies, when my pit bull got to my moms boston terrier…but I still think you should get a spay/abort right away! the longer you wait the more the puppies are developed, the bigger the procedure, and the more costly…
Also I really doubt the young dog really got her pregnant with one time..and I really don't understand how your friend don't know if they got stuck..that is a key piece of info to know if its even possible she is pregnant..I would ask her again/ how does she know they got together… If he was on top of her when she seen him.were they stuck? or did he jump off? was his penis swollen?
Also just to let you know..had this been dealt with the day of ..some vets have a "morning after pill" kinda thing..
You should have her spayed regardless. She will have less chance of cancer if she is spayed. it does not matter if she was bred by a young or adult dog, the puppies will be just as large. She will not be able to carry or deliver puppies from a breed as large as a border collie. it will kill her. your only choices are to hope she is not pregnant because he was too young or to spay her just in case.

Remove Tick From a Dog
A tick can be picked up by a dog at any time whilst he is out, but is more at risk whilst playing in over grown grassed areas and woodlands. Ticks are at their most prevalent in Spring and Summer and during this time it is wise to check your pet to see if there are any attached to his skin. it is not easy to remove a tick from a dog but the sooner you notice it and remove it, the less likely it is that your dog will suffer from an infection.
There are many ideas regarding the best way to remove a tick from a dog but unfortunately some of them are a little misguided. A tick is a member of the spider family and has a very strong, barbed mouth with which it can attach itself to the skin of the dog so that it can gorge on its blood. it is not the actual drawing of blood that poses the main threat to your pet, but the risk of infection. Ticks carry, amongst others, Lyme disease. this can be transmitted to your animal if any of the drawn blood is returned back in to his system. this is due to small amounts of the tick’s saliva being present in the regurgitated blood.
The body of the tick will expand as it fills itself with blood and one of the most important points to consider is that you do not want this blood to get back into your pet. for this reason you must be very careful as you remove the tick from the dog. do not just take a hold of its body and pull as this may squeeze the blood back into the wound.
The best way to remove the tick from the dog is to use a pair of narrow ended tweezers. Try to part the dog’s fur away from the area as much as possible so that you can get a clear view of the tick and the mouth in particular. Use the tweezers to grab hold of the tick as close as is possible to the skin of the dog. Remember not to squeeze the body of the tick. Once you have a hold of the front of the tick, pull it straight back from the dogs skin. the tick will not want to let go, as it will have the barbs securely attached to the dog. if you keep pulling you should be able to remove it. do not try to turn it to release it as this will not make it any easier and may cause unnecessary damage to the wound. it did not twist in so it will not twist out. Just pulling it away should be enough.
Sometimes you will find that not all of the tick comes away and a portion of the mouth section is left in the dog’s skin. if this is the case, you should try to remove any leftover pieces with the tweezers but if they do not come away easily then you would be wise to seek help from the veterinary surgery. if you do manage to remove the tick from the dog in one piece, then you must immediately clean the area with disinfectant and, if you feel it is necessary, also apply an antibiotic cream. These will not necessarily kill any infection such as Lyme disease, however, and if you feel that your pet is unwell over the next couple of days you should seek medical attention for him. if you do have to take him to the veterinary practice, be sure to let them know about the tick and let them see the area where it was attached.
High Blood Pressure – What Do the Numbers Mean
Has your doctor told you that your blood pressure is too high and then started quoting numbers to you like ’140 over 90′ and it should be ’120 over 80′. You give the doctor a strange look but the doctor didn’t explain what the numbers meant… or you have just heard blood pressure numbers mentioned in general conversation and wondered what they meant.
Well… the first number, which is always the higher number, is the systolic reading. now let’s say it is 140, which is a pressure of 140 millimetres of mercury and refers to the pressure that your heart pumps blood or the pressure applied to the walls of the arteries and blood vessels when the heart is contracting and squeezing the blood out.
The second number, which is always the lower number is the diastolic reading and refers to the resting blood pressure or the pressure when the heart is relaxing between heartbeats.
Millimetres of mercury is a standard of measurement, and at the risk of putting you to sleep is defined as “the pressure exerted at the base of a column of fluid exactly 1 millimetre high, when the density of the fluid is exactly 13.5951 g/cm3, at a place where the acceleration of gravity is exactly 9.80665 m/s2″.
To you and I, millimetres of mercury has no practical meaning other than a reference point to what your ideal pressure should be. You are considered to have high blood pressure when the systolic reading is above 140 millimetres of mercury and a diastolic reading above 90 millimetres of mercury. A typical adult is considered to have optimal blood pressure when the readings are 120 over 80.
What Are the Symptoms of High Blood Pressure The thing about high blood pressure is there are usually no symptoms until it becomes dangerously high and you start to experience symptoms like severe headaches. High blood pressure is referred to as the silent killer because until you have it tested and get those numbers, you are usually not aware that it is high, and it could have been high for a long time with you being unaware that anything was wrong.
African Orphans – Whose Responsibility Are They?
There are millions of orphans in Africa due to the wars, HIV/AIDS, malaria, natural disasters. Poverty and HIV/AIDS pandemic are the leading cause of the increase in African orphans. the children are often left without parents and with no food to eat because of these problems. there is a great need for food supply to feed them mostly because they run a greater risk of being malnourished and stunted than children who are well taken care of i.e. living in happy homes with both parents still alive and giving them love and protection.
There are a large number of African orphans who are as little as five years and live alone or with their younger siblings or on the streets. the only hope for the children is finding them shelter at orphanages or being adopted by families in other countries. many orphanages provide the opportunity to these sponsoring families to host African orphans by either proving donations or adopting them into their homes.
To put it bluntly, African orphans are in great need of shelter and clothing. Most of those living in rural areas live in such impoverished situations even the inheritance left behind by death parents become a health hazard i.e. the dilapidated houses and ragged clothes. These orphans need a better roof over their head just to survive from the cold and rain. Forget about the play stations and Nintendos – a handful of porridge, a roof over their heads and something to cover their skin with is all they need.
So as much as the African community is responsible for these children it is only human to lend a helping hand no matter where you are – whether in developing or developed countries. some say Africans mess up and hope to get help from others, well, a lot can be said on this matter and while debating about that, hundreds of thousands of innocent souls may die without even knowing the reason why.
There are over 48 million orphans in sub-Saharan Africa alone; UNICEF states that 12 million of these orphans have lost at least one parent to HIV/AIDS. that means that by 2010 AIDS orphans will make up 15 to 20 percent of the population in some African countries. this shows that if nothing is done about the HIV/AIDS pandemic many children in Africa will be without parents.
Liquid Vitamins During Prenatal
