Today, a themed post! I have tried quite a few in the 14 months that I have been TTC! I have used countless websites and predictors, charted my BBT, used a saliva microscope, and have tried charting my cervical mucus and position. when I first started TTC, I tried the cheaper options, like BBT first. a few dollars bought me the thermometer. I tried for several months, but I’m sort of a light sleeper and my temperature was a little all over the place. I never quite go the hang of charting CM and CP and my saliva microscope never gave me very obvious results. although I still pay attention to these things, I rely most heavily on.
What I like most: the best thing about OPKs is that it truly gives me a date to work from! Since a positive OPK tells you that you will ovulate in the next 24-28 hours, it gives me a pretty good idea that not only is it time to kick up the “baby-dancing”, but it also helps me predict when my period is likely to show! I am a bit (HA!) of a control freak, so I like to know these things! it also gives me a countdown to when I can take a home pregnancy test!
How it helps me: before I started using OPKs, I really had no clue when I ovulated! I didn’t have much confidence when I was tracking my BBT, because I always figured there was a margin for human error!
What it has taught me about my cycle: Once I used OPKs for a few months, I started to really see a pretty good pattern to my cycles. I found out that typically, I ovulated later in the month, somewhere between CD 18 and CD 23. the average woman ovulates around CD 14. I also learned that my luteal phase (the number of days between ovulation and period) was a little shorter than most, around 11-12 days, assuming I actually ovulated the day I got a positive OPK. a LP of at least 10 is very important, because anything shorter may not allow a fertilized egg enough time to implant.
Since I began taking Clomid, my cycle has changed. I got a positive OPK this month on CD 15. last month, my LP was 14 days (which is average). OPKs are essential while I’m on Clomid, because I have to have my progesterone checked about 7 days after my positive OPK. If my progesterone level isn’t high enough, the doctor can give me supplements so that my body can support a pregnancy. So the bottom line for me that OPKs are essential during my cycle!
Tips/Advice:when using OPKs, it can take a few months to figure your cycles out. I usually start taking OPKs on CD 10 and I continue taking them until a few days after the test goes back to negative, just to be sure that my surge is over. most OPKs are not meant to use with first morning urine (FMU). If you want to test twice per day to be sure you don’t have a very short surge, try testing at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. try to avoid drinking much for at least 2 hours before testing. the test line on an OPK must be as dark or darker than the control line. Your test line may get close and then get paler. Keep watching for it to get truly as dark as the control line.
Average cost per cycle:the price of OPK varies depending on the test brand and the number of tests you buy. There are digital OPKs, which are the most expensive, around $20 for a pack of 7. Some store brands sell for about $12 for a pack of 7. I have been buying mine on Amazon.com. the last pack I bought cost about $18 with shipping and included 50 OPKs and 20 HPTs (home pregnancy tests). If I use about 10 OPKs a month, that amounts to about $3.60 in OPKs, not a bad deal. That breaks down to about $.36 per OPK, if you don’t count the HPTs! Pretty nice savings compared to about $2.85 per digital or $1.71 per store brand.
Instead of squirting a messy stream of water into your mouth (the WaterPik way) to blow away gunk stuck between teeth and tartar at the gum line, AirFloss reduces the water consumption from a liter to a mere teaspoon or two, delivered as neat “microdroplet” squirts combined with compressed air.
HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT: on first use, this cordless, rechargeable device is a mite startling.
Best deployed after you’ve first brushed with a conventional toothbrush (or better yet, a Sonicare electric), you position the AirFloss’ rubbery-tipped nozzle between two teeth, up at the gum line, then press a trigger. The device makes a whirring noise, followed by a little “pop” as you feel the air/water combination attacking the zone.
But by the time you’ve circled your mouth (a 60-second undertaking) hitting all the uppers and lowers just on the outside, the noise and tingle will begin to feel normal.
LESS MESS: AirFlossing is so much easier, cleaner and faster than conventional dental floss. Don’t know about you, but I hate the ritual of wrapping a slippery strand of floss around fingers and wedging it between my teeth, then pulling out the silly string with all that gunk and saliva and (sometimes) blood dripping off. (Sorry, I warned you this would get ugly.)
When you run your tongue around your choppers afterward, they seem cleaner and smoother. Philips touts that AirFloss removes “99 percent more plaque than a manual toothbrush alone.”

A Dentist Recommends This ProductI am a dentist that recommends Biotene toothpaste to those patients that have sensitive mouths, dry mouths, or get canker sores frequently. the paste is a god-send for these folks!
Biotene toothpaste is biocompatible product that will clean your teeth without irritating your oral mucosa. the product that is in most generic toothpastes, sodium lauryl sulfate, is a form of soap, and can cause canker sores and an irritated mouth in some individuals. BIOTENE DOES NOT HAVE SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE. instead, it has enzymes that help break down plaque and loosen plaque from the teeth. It will not “foam” like other toothpastes, since it has no sodium lauryl sulfate, but don’t let this bother you – it will still clean your teeth gently and with low irritation and low abrasivity.
This is a great product and I highly recommend it!

all right by me !!!I receive chemotherapy to fight cancer. My dentist told me to use Biotène toothpaste to fight dry mouth which can occur as a side effect of the chemotherapy. I use this toothpaste every day and I can see the obvious advantages of using Biotène toothpaste.
The dentist who writes that Biotène does not “foam” like most toothpastes do is correct. Don’t let that bother you. the chemicals in this toothpaste are combined in such a way that brushing with this toothpaste REALLY fights plaque, dry mouth and more. I am very impressed–and the makers of Biotène manage to still make this toothpaste tolerable without any foul taste or “antiseptic” aftertaste. Biotène is the result of pure genius. They were very smart to manufacture this toothpaste to work in the same way that the body uses its natural defenses to fight cavities and gum disease.
Use this before any expiration date stamped on the package or the end of the tube of toothpaste; and if you can catch a sale on this stock up! It’s expensive next to the other brands of toothpaste but it’s worth every penny you pay for it.
Canker Sores have disappeared.!!!THANK YOU!!!I have had canker sores for over 30 years. someone told me that it was the sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS), the detergent used in toothpaste to create the foam we’re all familiar with. SLS is also used in shampoos, shaving foams and other soaps. upon researching, I discovered that SLS denatures proteins, i.e. it disolves/destroys/digests proteins. This is one of the reasons it causes canker sores because it destroys the mucus and top cells in your mouth.
So I decided to use this toothpaste with much skepticism as nothing else had worked. to my shocking surprise, the sores I had disappeared within 3 days of using this and I haven’t had another canker sore since. I used to get them weekly. I was so skeptical of this being such an easy cure, that I thought it was too easy to be true, so I kept putting it off from trying it thinking that it would not work.
I love this toothpaste, I just hope this company never stops making it simply because they don’t sell enough of them. They should advertise the canker sore application more than the “dry mouth” use. They would sell many more if people knew about this. Everyone in my family suffers from canker sores and they have all turned to this toothpaste and are as amazed as I was. Give it a try if you have sores. It will take a few days for any existing sores to heal, so be patient, it really works. Depending on the severity of your sores it could take a few weeks before they heal. Also, stop using any toothpaste with SLS in it. Good luck.
NOTE: because it doesn’t have the SLS foaming detergent, be aware that this toothpaste will not foam in your mouth and is much more liquid as a result of not containing sodium lauryl sulfate. Also, it’s less minty than most toothpaste, which is good if you have a sensitive mouth as mint can burn/irritate sores. It’s still fighting cavities and killing germs so just give it time and you’ll get used to having less foam and mintyness. It’s well worth it in the end!!
OK, I have now been using this toothpaste for 1 year and 3 months, and it continues to impress me even more each day. I haven’t had ANY sores/ulcers since I started using this toothpaste, and I have definitely put my mouth to the test. It really is a godsend!
As an example, I used to get extremely painful canker sores/ulcers almost every time I would eat abrasive foods that cut-up and scratch the inside of the mouth, inside cheeks, underneath tongue, and gums, for example, crackers, hard cereals, crusty breads, some fruits, etc. another source of cankers/ulcers was whenever I would accidentally bite my tongue or inside cheeks.
Just recently I ate a gourmet artisan bread that is VERY crusty but delicious and would always scratch the inside of my mouth severely and cause these sores. Sure enough the bread cut my mouth up like razor blades, and to make matters worse, I bit the inside of my left cheek and bled. It was extremely painful and I was certain that THIS TIME this miracle toothpaste would not succeed in preventing sores, after all I had way too many scratches and cuts inside my mouth. well, I was stunned the next morning when I woke up and, not only did I NOT have any cankers/ulcers, but my mouth had healed completely.
It then occurred to me that this anti-bacterial toothpaste with its enzymes, low mint, no SLS is working by minimizing the bacterial activity in my mouth, similar to putting a topical antibiotic on a cut and covering it with a band aid – the wounds heal faster. I’m convinced that this is the mechanism by which this toothpaste is preventing 100% of my sores/ulcers, no matter what I throw at it.
For the above reasons and the fact that I haven’t had any painful sores and I’m able to enjoy many more foods, I felt compelled to write an update for those who suffer from the same.
I pray that this company NEVER stops making this and, in fact, they should advertise it’s anti canker sore/ulcer powers on the package much more than the “dry mouth” marketing. Mouth sores are MUCH MUCH more painful and depressing than dry mouth. thank you again BIOTECH/BIOTENE for this godsend toothpaste!!!
What is the Best Fertility Monitor?
The top fertility monitor available can be a device which will help you pinpoint the most fertile days within your menstrual cycle. Using this information, you are able to ultimately enhance your chances of conceiving. Fertility monitors in general are simple and easy to use, but you’re not in the least created equal.
The perfect fertility monitor may be slightly more expensive that others available, as well as the added simplicity and accuracy, it truly is well worth it. indeed, some monitors are rather messy since the test necessitates the woman to submit an urine sample.
There exists, however, a monitor using saliva for a gauge as opposed to the usual alternative. A sensor is defined under the tongue for only 5 seconds, and on this short time, the monitor will record the day’s fertility level. the second method is obviously a lot more simple and sterile of these two options. So the bottom line is, the best fertility monitor is able to predict ovulation in your saliva instead of urine.
In a saliva-based ovulation test, adjustments to electrolyte levels are measured in the woman’s saliva. this can be caused by a boost is the hormone estrogen. unlike other monitors, which can only predict ovulation 1-5 days ahead of time, a saliva-based monitor predicts 5-7 days before ovulation. this sort of monitor is likewise 98 percent accurate, rather than others, which be unsuccessful, ranging from 66-94%.
Furthermore, it really is approved by the FDA and recommended by fertility specialists. it relies on a full-color display, including a calendar and full daily tracking. the very best fertility monitor may display data in three languages – English, Spanish, and Chinese. this makes the vast majority of women in the country can read the monitor with ease.
Specifically, the perfect fertility monitor can help the woman keep track of her current fertility status every single day, and it the sole monitor now available that will also determine the beginning and end dates of her monthly fertility window. Almost all of the useful because couples often need many days to have intercourse, because of family and work pressures.
Then, using stored information, the monitor reports the most effective days for any woman to have a baby during each monthly menstrual period. the kit includes the oral sensory device, battery, owner’s manual, and a convenient carrying case. no other additional equipment or accessory is needed to properly utilize best fertility monitor kit.
